MYTH: Carbon dioxide emissions are destroying American air quality.
FACT: According to the EPA, between 1980 and 2007, the United States increased its carbon dioxide emissions by 32% due to enormous growth in gross domestic product (126%), vehicle miles traveled (91%), energy consumption (29%) and population (34%). However, during this same time period, the total emissions of the six principal air pollutants (including Ozone) decreased 54%.
